Bone broth
Print recipeThis bone broth is the perfect base for soups and sauces. A simple broth to prepare that elevates all your dishes in flavour, while also being good for your health. Bone broth is exceptionally rich in minerals and amino acids.
Moreover, it has a positive effect on your immune system, nervous system and blood sugar levels.
Ingredients
- 1 leek
- 1 carrot
- 3 onions
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 1-2 kg bones (beef, chicken, lamb or mixed)
- 3-4 litres water
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 3 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon peppercorns
- salt
Kitchen tools:
- slow cooker or large stock pot
Method
- Roughly chop the leek, carrot, onion and garlic. Place everything together with the bones in a large stock pot or slow cooker. Add enough water to cover everything. Add the apple cider vinegar, bay leaves and peppercorns and slowly bring to the boil.
- Let the broth simmer gently for at least 8 hours, then remove the bones.
- Strain the broth, season with salt to taste and store in an airtight glass container (or pot with lid) in the fridge. Using a slow cooker? Set it to ‘low’ and let the broth simmer for 8-10 hours.
